Shower of the Day

This shower was completed several years ago but deserves a formal recognition for its ingenuity and successful installation.

Most of the steam showers that Hillcrest Glass installs are from the curb to the tiled ceiling. We also like to install operable glass transoms to help vent moisture. This shower has none of that. A completely enclosed steam shower with a glass lid.

This glass lid is fabricated from laminated, tempered glass (as opposed to solely tempered). If for some reason the glass lid were to break, no pieces would fall on top of the user. Laminated glass is specifically designed to hold two individual pieces of glass together using a very thin “glue” between them. Additionally, it was required to slope the lid slightly towards the back so that any water droplets that bound to the glass would slide towards the tile and not drop down onto the user. U-channel was secured to the tiled walls and then the glass lid was slid into place for a perfect snug fit.

This look is definitely not for everybody but we enjoyed the challenge and the homeowner loved the finished product! Just don’t ask us how often the top of the glass lid gets dusted…
